Whosoever.

Whosoever.”

This is the single word I heard echoed in my heart as I made the drive to work.

Okay, God… whosoever what? What does that mean? The answer I received: A continued, resounding echo of the word.

So I decided to look it up. I pulled into the parking garage, parked, broke out the handy-dandy Google box (my cellphone), and searched. Whosoever, according to dictionary.com, is “whoever; whatever person” and is the formal term for ‘whoever’. A quick follow up search of whoever showed me “whatever person; anyone that; no matter who.”

Well, this particular search did not arm me with knowledge I did not already know. So, what next, God? Whosoever, what?? (It’s a good thing He’s gracious with us as some of us are harder to get to than others… and I’m pretty sure if He facepalms, this was one of those moments with me.) Still uncertain about what Whosoever meant at this point in my life, I walked into the hospital and up to the ICU where I swiped my badge and began my day. As my shift carried on, I felt the pull at my heart, “Whosoever,” He said again.

“Okay God, I hear you- I just have no idea what you’re trying to tell me.” I replied and continued on with whatever task I was performing at that moment. When my shift ended, I swiped my badge out and was left with my thoughts for the roughly 20-minute drive home. “Okay God, I’m here, I’m present, Whosoever what??” I asked (out loud) in my car. Not too long after I started the drive and presenting this question to God, I had a God-moment. “The Bible.” (Cue the lightbulb over my head now.) “Ohhh, you want me to look up Whosoever in the Bible?” I said, once again, out loud. The overwhelming peace I felt was my answer. So, I made a mental note to look up the term Whosoever in the Bible tomorrow… After I was mentally rested. After all, it had been a long 12-hour shift, and I still had food to eat and a baby to get to bed.

Let me tell you, that “mental note” for the next day didn’t last too long because after the baby was down for the night, “Whosoever” was all I could think about. Another quick search on the cell phone for “whosoever in the Bible” revealed, according to dailyverses.net, 23 Bible verses containing the word “Whosoever”. I laid there reading them all, taking them in as if I’d never read or heard them before (and some of them, well, maybe I hadn’t- I’ve only recently started actually reading my Bible.)

The verse that caught and held my attention was Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Woah. That little word suddenly took on a new meaning to me. But why? Why was God telling me Whosoever? Because I am the Whosoever. I am the anyone. I am the no matter who. You, reading this, YOU are the Whosoever. The anyone. You are the no matter who. You are the whoever person.

I’m wonderfully excited about this new journey of what it means and what it’s like to have a relationship- not religion- with Christ. To explore further what it means to be the Whosoever.
